INSTITUTE OF INSPECTORS OF STOCK OF N.S.W. YEAR BOOK.

FOREWORD

By F. J. MADDEN. President.

Due to the serious position of the World War in which our Mother Country, her Dominions and her Allies are waging against the tyrannical hordes who have ranged themselves against us and who are attempting to dominate and overrun the world, the Executive of the Institute decided against the holding of the 1942 Conference, they were reluctant to do so, but considered that under the circumstances it was the only action to take.

This decision was influenced by the fact that many of our members are actively engaged in war work in some form or other, and that all officers of the Divisions covered by the Department of Agriculture and kindred Institutions are similarly engaged and to ask them to give time to other matters at this period would not be in the hest interests of the war effort.

This is the second time in the history of our Institute that the Conference has had to be abandoned and both occasions have been for the same reasons, and we sincerely hope that it will be the last, and that in 1943 we will again meet in Conference and will look forward to doing so under much happier and brighter conditions.

Fortunately, we were able to prevent a break in the issue of our Year Book, as this journal is now highly rated amongst technical publications and to have missed a year would have been most disappointing. This has been avoided and we desire to express our thanks to the gentlemen who have so fully co-operated and contributed articles that are so well prepared and presented in the 1942 issue.

It is also desired to express our appreciation of the happy relations existing between the Officers of the Division of Animal Industry, The Council of Advice, The Directors of the Pastures Protection Boards, and we Inspectors of Stock.
